8:00 PM  Pre-Fireworks Concert and Family Fun

Hiram College Football Field

Before the fireworks, listen to great music from Foster Brown and Friends!  Once again you will be able to see a helicopter land/take off and get a tour of it.  Swifty the clown’s friend Joe will be there to make lots of balloon animals for the kids ! 

 

9:30 PM FIREWORKS!

Hiram College Football Field.

Come and enjoy Hiram's version of this Independence Day tradition.  The Hiram Fire Department will serve refreshments.  Lorena Muscari will sing the National Anthem.  Donations will be taken to pay for fireworks.  Funds for the fireworks provided by local business, and the Hiram Community Trust.

 

Friday, July 4

 

9:00 AM  Softball Games

Bicentennial Field Park

Everyone 16 and older invited to play softball, with games for different age groups.

 

10 AM - 12 noon  Historical Society Open House

Bicentennial Park by the fire station. Look for their float in the Parade!

 

11 AM Grand Opening and Dedication of the Elmer Jagow Play Park !

The dedication and ribbon cutting of the new play park, located across from the Hiram Village building.

 

11 AM – 5 PM Blood Drive

Hiram Fire Station

The Red Cross will be having a blood drive all day at the fire station.  Please stop by and help save a life by donating blood.  Everyone receives a free t-shirt for donating! Donate and get  a chance to win  1 of 6 $500 gas cards or win a set of wheels !

 

12 – 1:30 PM  Family Activities and Bike Decorating

Meet at the Hiram Christian Church in front of the Hiram village municipal building.

Face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, and bike decorating for the parade, The Majestic Band Organ, and more.  The Civil War group from the Ohio 41st Volunteer Army will be on hand all afternoon.  

 

12 – 1:30 PM   Fire Department Picnic Lunch Display of Hiram and Visiting Fire Department Vehicles

Meet at the Hiram village municipal building.

Before the parade, enjoy burgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and chips, or bring your own! 

Visit with firefighters and see the trucks up close before they lead the parade.

 

1:30 PM  THE GRAND PARADE

Vehicles line up on Haden like in previous years.  Walkers and bicyclers will line up at the Hiram Christian Church on  the north,, exiting to the west on Route 82.  Everyone is welcome to participate! Ride your bike, make a float, drive an antique car, or just show up and cheer on everyone in the parade. Once again the route goes north on Hayden and Dean Streets, left on Hinsdale Street, south on to Peckham, and then down State Route 82 then back to the church.

2 – 3 PM  Bicycle Rodeo

Meet at the Hiram Christian Church parking lot

Come learn the ins and outs of bicycle safety after the parade. Sponsored by Hiram Police Department.  Lots of prizes will be awarded, including free bikes!

 

2:30 PM  Old-Fashioned Contests

Village green near the new Play Park !

Contests for kids and adults of all ages, including bubble gum blowing contest, pickle eating contest, donut eating contest, and more.

 

 3 PM Kids Games

Village green near the new Play Park !

Potato sack races, water balloon toss, parachute fun, other fun games -- and the annual boys vs. girls tug of war.  All participants get a prize!

 

3 PM Hiram Historical Society Guided Walking Tour of Hiram

meet under the arch of new science building

Learn about the historic houses and landmarks in the village.  If you’ve never gone on the tour, it is worth it!

 

4 PM Hiram Community Band – 32TH ANNIVERSARY!

Dean Street by Frohring Music Building

A Hiram tradition since 1976.  You can participate or come and listen to your friends and neighbors play fabulous patriotic music!.  Rehearsals are June 26th, 29th, and July 2cd 6:30-8:30 P.M. at Frohring Music Building of Hiram’s campus; for more information contact

5:30 – 6:30 PM  Pie Contest

Gerstacker Science Hall

Whip up your best pie and enter it into our third annual Pie Contest.  Independent judges will determine a winner and award a fabulous prize during the Big Band Dance and Ice Cream Social Wednesday evening.  Drop off your pie at Gerstacker Science Hall (under the arch) on Dean Street between 5:30 and 6:30 pm.  All pies will be sold by the slice at the Strawberry Social and Prizes WILL be awarded there for best overall and other categories.  For more info contact Chris Cobb @ 1-330-569-7959.

 

8 - 11 PM  ICE CREAM STRAWBERRY SOCIAL AND BIG BAND DANCE

Martin Commons (near new science building)

Enjoy big band entertainment and dancing in an outdoor setting!  Live music once again provided by the Garretttones.  Ice cream sold by the Hiram Christian Church; root beer floats also available.  Enjoy starry skies and candlelit tables.  Fabulous door prizes awarded at intermission of big band concert – free to enter, but you must be present to win!

 

Please note: the fireworks will be taking place the evening of July 3.  Rain location for family activities, the Community Band concert, and the big band dance is Frohring Music Building on the college campus.  The parade is rain or shine!
