Come and enjoy Hiram's version of this Independence Day tradition. 

 

Thursday, July 4

 

9:00 AM Softball Games

Bicentennial Field Park

Everyone 16 and older invited to play softball.

 

11:30 –2:00 PM Display of Classic Cars and Hiram and Visiting Fire Department Vehicles Classic vehicles for show and the parade, please park along the curves on Hayden Street. Visit with firefighters and classic cars before they lead the parade.

 

11:00-12:30 PM Bicycle Rodeo

Meet at the Hiram Christian Church parking lot

Come learn the ins and outs of bicycle safety after the parade. Sponsored by Hiram Police Department.  Lots of prizes donated via local businesses will be awarded!

 

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Family Activities and Bike Decorating (Hot Dogs/Beverages for sale in the Hiram Christian Church Parking Lot).

Meet at the Hiram Christian Church in front of the Hiram Village municipal building.

Face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, and bike decorating for the parade.

 

1:00 PM THE GRAND PARADE

Classic vehicles please park on Hayden Street. 

Walkers and bicyclers will line up near the Hiram Post Office on Hayden street.  Everyone is welcome to participate! Ride your bike, make a float, drive an antique car, or just show up and cheer on everyone in the parade. As tradition, the route goes north on Hayden and Dean Streets, left on Hinsdale Street, south on Peckham, and then down State Route 82, back to the church.

2:00-4:00 Hiram Historical Society

Childhood Days Gone By - Visit the Hiram Historical Society's display of games and children's clothing from the past at the Century House from 2-4 pm.  Come on by and play one of the games.  Children are also able to participate in a historical childhood game, provided by the Society, at the Kids Games event from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the Hiram Christian Church.  This game is found on page 55 of the book Games for the Playground, Home, School and Gymnasium by Jessie H. Bancroft published in 1909, locally owned and donated by Maggie Brosius.

 

2:00 - 3:00pm Basketball Knock-out 

Gather on the Hiram village park basketball courts at 2pm for an individual basketball shooting contest.  Boys and girls all ages are welcome although children and youth under 18 have priority.  Prizes for the top four will be awarded.

 

2:00-3:00 PM Kids Games

Hiram Christian Church, in front of Hiram Village Hall!

Potato sack races, water balloon toss, parachute fun, other fun games -- and the annual boys vs. girl’s tug of war.  All participants get a prize!

 

3:30 PM Old-Fashioned Contests

Hiram Christian Church, in front of Hiram Village Hall

Contests for kids and adults of all ages, including bubble gum blowing contest, pickle eating contest, donut eating contest, and more.

 

4:00-5:00 PM Hiram Community Band – 42cd ANNIVERSARY!

Dean Street by Frohring Music Building

A Hiram tradition since 1976.  You can participate or come and listen to your friends and neighbors play fabulous patriotic music!  The rehearsals are at Frohring Music Building on Hiram’s campus. For more information contact Paul Dreisbach @ 330-569-7539. 

 

5:30 – 6:30 PM Pie Contest - Gerstacker Science Hall

Whip up your best pie and enter it into our Seventh (?) Annual Pie Contest.  Independent judges will determine winners and award a fabulous prizes during the Big Band Dance and Ice Cream Social evening.  Drop off your pie at Gerstacker Science Hall (under the arch) on Dean Street between 5:30 and 6:30 pm.  All pies will be sold by the slice at the Strawberry Social.  Winners will receive cookbooks! 8:00 – 10:00 PM ICE CREAM STRAWBERRY SOCIAL AND BIG BAND DANCE

Martin Commons (near Gerstacker, Hiram College’s science building)

Enjoy big band entertainment and dancing in an outdoor setting!  Live music once again provided by the Garretttones.  Ice cream and pop sold by the Hiram Christian Church. .  Enjoy starry skies and candlelit tables. 

 

Rain location for family activities, the Community Band concert, and the big band dance is Frohring Music Building on the college campus.  The parade is rain or shine!
